Breakout Sessions & Post-Summit Tours

The Breakout Sessions, also known as Cybersecurity Skills Development Workshops (CSDWs), are designed to develop faculty capabilities that are essential to the effective performance of cybersecurity job roles. Ranging from one-day or two-day workshops focused on a single capability to multi-week virtual and physical bootcamps, the CSDW program applies advances in formative assessment and adaptive learning systems to ensure the achievement of mastery in understanding, applying, and adapting cybersecurity practices. The New CAE

​The goal of the Centers of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) is to reduce vulnerabilities in our national information infrastructure by recognizing colleges and universities that meet industry-recognized standards of education and training in cyber defense. Beginning in fall 2020, all regionally accredited two-year, four-year, and graduate level institutions in the United State can apply for designation under the new CAE application process. This Workshop will instruct institutions on the two-part application process required for validating their selected program of study and earning the CAE designation.

Cybersecurity Skills Journal: Paper Development Workshop
​Facilitator: David Tobey
​The Paper Development Workshop will consist of two parts. First, an introductory session led by David Tobey (managing editor) and members of the editorial board to discuss the manuscript review process, provide pointers on how to translate practice experiences into a scholarly article, and touch on various other topics relevant to authors seeking to publish in CSJ. Second, during the main session, groups of authors (with substantially related papers) will be paired with two CSJ Editors/peer reviewers for constructive feedback. The lunch break provides an excellent opportunity for scholars to have individual discussions with the CSJ editorial team.

Introduction to the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC)
​Facilitator: John Sands
​The workshop will present a series of twelve exercises focusing on cybersecurity Governance, Risk Management and Compliance (GRC). These materials and the workshop were developed in response to a national need for the cybersecurity technician workforce to be more knowledgeable and involved in the compliance process. The workshops will consist of hands-on labs, auditing activities, and group projects. Participants that attend this workshop will be given access to a course shell, assessment items, and a short capture the flag toolkit. Rationale and Audience: business leaders from across the nation have expressed a need for community college cybersecurity program graduates to be better prepared for the Qualified Security Assessor (QSA) certification exam. This certification is required for those who perform audits for the Payment Card Industry - Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS). This workshop is designed for college faculty that teach cybersecurity and information security programs.

Carillon Historical Park is a super-cool 65-acre open-air history museum in Dayton, Ohio, which contains historic buildings and exhibits concerning the history of technology and the history of Dayton and its residents from 1796 to the present.
Carillon Historical Park celebrates how Dayton, Ohio, changed the world. The Gem City is home to the airplane, the automobile self-starter, the cash register, the first internationally acclaimed African American poet, the National Football League’s inaugural game, and so much more. By the turn of the 20th century, Dayton had more patents, per capita, than any U.S. city, and one-sixth of the nation’s corporate executives had spent a portion of their career at legendary Dayton company National Cash Register (NCR).
Exhibits include a hand-carved carousel, 4-D theatre, trains, slides, living history experiences, thousands of artifacts, extensive educational programming, and so much more.
